How to Play

View here.

If you are visiting this site, probably you need no explanation of how the Rummy is played in general. But, you may be needing to know the features available on the this site to help you play the game.

First some definitions: Table refers to Rummy Table or Board where two or more players would join and play the Rummy. Game refers to the complete Rummy game, typically the Game is played by minimum of two players, for e.g. 201 points. Round refers to one part of game, i.e from one dealing of the cards till a player does the SHOW/RUMMY.

The Lobby (Play) page is the starting point for playing the Rummy game on this site. This is where the available table names are listed. If a table is not available ie. if players started playing game on a table, that table would not be listed. Each row here in this list corresponds to one Rummy table. Clicking on the hyper link corresponding to the table name would show the information consisting of the rules for the table. This information is same as the one entered by clicking on the "Create Table" hyper link. The pieces of information that can be configured as rules of table are:
    • Table Name - will have to be entered although it's not a "rules" part of the table. Player Name defaults to the user id who logged in and can't be edited.
    • Joker type - Opposite colored joker, Same colored joker or All jokers
    • Number of Decks used for the game. Minimum of one deck should be chosen. Max allowed number of decks are 4.
    • Min. & Max Number of Players - Minimum number of players required for starting the game (>= 2). Maximum number of players allowed to play the game (>= 2and < =8).
    • Points - the game is played for. Commonly it's left as 201.
    • RummyRobot as Player: Check this option if RummyRobot (as automated Player) has to be added to this table as additional player.
    • Is Secret Joker: Check this option if the game is to be played with "Secret Joker" option.

Clicking on the "Join" link would join a player to the selected table. This opens up a page which is referred as Playing Area.

The Playing Area is organized as below:
Top level line is header information which tells the Table name and the max points this game is being played for. Also the current player name is displayed here. When the hyperlink corresponding to this table name is clicked, a summary view of the table is listed. This information is exactly the same information that the table creator would have given.

After this header information, the main playing area is presented. Discard pile is show on the top left corner. There a maximum of two recent-Discard cards are shown. On the right hand side is for showing the joker card and Facedown pile. Again, here top two Facedown cards are shown. Beneath this sections is area Playing Hand. This area would consist of 25 slots in to which the cards on the playing hand could be organized. When the cards are served, they are put on the middle slots. A card ruler-bar is shown just on the top of playing hand, when the playing hand consists of some cards. This serves as visual cue for re-arranging the cards. The Player can drag and drop the cards to required slots to achieve required grouping/organization of playing hand.
Some of the mouse of the mouse operation are: When a card is left-clicked on, it would be indented to raise its position. Only one card could be indented this way, at this point of time. This indenting is required for certain operations which would be explained later. When right click on a slot or a card, all the cards (including the card that is clicked) on the right side would moved right so that player would have additional space at the clicked area. When ctl-left click on a slot, that free slot would be removed so that cards on the right would move left.

Beneath this play area is Control panel which consists of hyperlinks for making certain moves.
    • Start: To indicate the willingness to start the game when the player has joined a table.
    • Pick Discard and Pick FaceDown: When a particular player is supposed to pick a card, this links would show up. When player clicks on Pick Discard, a card from Discard pile is taken and added to the right most empty slot of playing hand. If Pick Facedown is picked the card from Facedown pile. Alternatively player could click on Discard pile or Facedown pile, or drag cards from Discard pile or Facedown pile onto playing hand to the required slots.
    • Discard Card: This link enables the player to discard a card which is indented, when it's the player's turn to discard.
    • Initial Drop: Player can use this link to initial drop the round. If there are no minimum players to continue the round, the next round should start.
    • Middle Drop Player can use this link to middle drop the round. If there are no minimum players to continue the round, the next round should start.
    • Resign: At any time, a player can resign from the table by clicking on this link. It's recommended that a player chooses this option when he/she has to leave, so that other players on the table would get to know the board would be continued or destroyed appropriately. Using browser window close features would not inform other players on this table about this event.
    • Show: If it's a players turn to Discard a card, this link is enabled so that when clicked the server would check if the players hand has done RUMMY. Before clicking on this link, a card has to be indented to mark it as discard. If so, the next round should start. if not the player is awarded penalty points and round continues. Cards of the Rummy hand are shown, in alphabetical representation to all players on the table. 3 letters are shown for each card. first letter for deck number, second letter corresponds to the symbol of the card (Spades etc) and the last one corresponds to the face value (2, 6, or q for queen etc) of the card.
    • Start: To indicate the willingness to start the round when RUMMY is done on current round or when there are no sufficient players to continue the round after initial/middle drop by one or more players in the current round.

To the right of this control panel shown is two important pieces of information: Current Hand's points, if any other player had done Rummy. This is calculated just after a card is discarded. Second piece is current player's total points in this game.

Beneath this, Table level and Player specific messages are shown. These messages include status information, instructions to do the next move in the game.
On the right side of this Playing Area, two main sections are shown. One, that lists current players, thier current points, a short status message. The player name corresponding to you would be boled. Second, a chat area to chat with other players on this game. In the text box corresponding to chat area, the text message to be sent is typed and "send" link is clicked. The current message being sent and messages sent by other players would be shown on the textarea box just above this.

Every 5 seconds, while the player is waiting for his/her own turn, play area would check with the server to get any updates on the game status. So, once a player has done his/her move, it would take a maximum of 5 seconds (subjected to network speed and server processing burden) for the next player to be able to see that it's his/her turn.
Right now, the table's inactive time out is set as 2 hours, if there is no activity on the tabe for 2 hours, the table would be distroyed.
